Best Day of My Life!
- What do You Think?

I absolutely Love the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" by Jared & Jerusha Hess! A few of my friends think it is the stupidest movie ever; but love it or hate it, you can learn a lot from this listless, alienated loser. For one thing, if you memorized all the awesome quotes in this movie and could quote them at will, you’d be guaranteed lifelong success in whatever career path you choose! OK, maybe not, but there is at least one of Napoleon's ridiculous lines that has really got me thinking.

Grandma: How was school?

Napoleon Dynamite: The worst day of my life, what do you think?

Here's the classic pessimist in all his glory! Don't we all know someone like this? Maybe we even find ourselves speaking or thinking this way occasionally. It's the all-too-common mindset that life sucks. It's so easy to find things to complain about, isn't it?

It's too hot; It's too cold; A day is too short; A day is too long; Restaurants are too expensive; Cooking is too much work; There's nothing good on TV; There's nothing to do in this lousy town
What a waste of energy all this complaining is!

You may not realize that you have absolutely no reason to complain, and every reason in the world to be thankful for today and everything about it! Why? Because we are beings who exist in a single dimension of time flowing in a constant direction. The entirety of your life exists as a series of moments, only one at any given time. Only the present moment is fully within your grasp. Each future moment is unknowable. Each past moment is unchangeable. There is only one moment which is both knowable and changeable - THIS moment, right NOW. You DO have the power to control this moment. This moment is exactly what you make it. This day is a series of now moments which you can control in an orderly manner, to build into whatever fashion you desire. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is not yet known. Today is the best day of my life! What do YOU think?

Blessings,
