Principles of Modeling

In the preceding sections we have looked at several ideas relating to modeling. Here are some of these key ideas boiled down into several principles of modeling:


1. In order to reduce complexity we must reduce completeness.
2. As more details are added, the model becomes more complete and more accurate.
3. As differing models become more complete, they begin to resemble one another.
4. Incorporating different perspectives increases complexity, completeness and contradiction.
5. Lack of contradiction is a sure sign of incompleteness.
6. No one model can ever be complete
